Going Green in Home Decor - Making Your Bedroom Eco Friendly

If you care about your interior design style as much as you care about the environment and the people you love, then designing your bedroom to be modern, stylish and functional but at the same time being eco-friendly will definitely be a breeze. There are various ways to "go green" with the interior design of your bedroom. An obvious but indirect way would be to incorporate certain aspects of nature in your home décor and furnishings but this hardly encompasses being eco-friendly.

There has to be a better (and more direct) way, though, to incorporate the environment in your interior design. First off would be the usage of organic furniture. Why do people use organic furniture? They use it because just like organically grown food or purified water, it is harmless (and definitely beneficial) to people and to the environment.

The main reason this type of furniture is eco-friendly is because it does not contain Formaldehyde in its furnishings. This chemical is widely used in most furnishings like beds and dressers and these tend to become more concentrated and be harmful to its surroundings. Constant inhalation due to prolonged exposure to this chemical could lead to headaches, lack of sleep, difficulty in breathing and many more ailments. If these are the effects on adults, imagine how it could affect babies who spend most of their time in traditionally manufactured baby cribs!

You will definitely see the difference once you replace your traditionally manufactured (with toxic paint and dyes) bedroom furniture. You'll find yourself sleeping more soundly and realize that these hazards contributed to your annoying headaches!

Eco-friendly home décor does not lack in style and beauty as one might normally think. In fact, these furnishings even give off a more natural vibe to its surroundings. They are also known to be more durable albeit more expensive as more care is given to them and higher standards are given.

Choices for the best eco-friendly bedroom set-up may consist of unfinished wooden bed frames and dressers made from choice woods like Maple and Spruce that were not treated with harmful chemicals. For the chairs, the frames must not consist of dyes or synthetic glues and its cushions must not be chemically treated cotton. Instead, choose chairs or sofas with cushions made from choice wool or natural cotton. The same goes for your pillows.

It's not very difficult to turn your bedroom into an eco-friendly bedroom. It is definitely an investment both for your health and the health of Mother Nature. Your contribution will go a long way by fostering and supporting the use of sustainable materials for your home décor. Aesthetics definitely won't suffer too, as the more natural the overall feel of your bedroom is, the more beautiful it becomes. I'm betting Mother Nature will absolutely agree.
